Jackstraw’s music springs from the traditional core of Bluegrass.
The band mixes original and traditional songs, shaping
them through wicked harmonies & ferocious pickin’.
Jackstraw performs in a variety of settings ranging from rowdy college crowds
and smoky night clubs, to outdoor afternoons and family festivals.

FROM THE BAND:
“We were raised in Kansas, Rhode Island, Colorado and Chicago, . . . all of us
with different backgrounds and influences, but we all have a common passion
for acoustic music.
“All four of us grew up hearing the sounds of acoustic guitars, mandolins, banjos
& fiddles, . . . as children often do, we took those sounds deep into our souls
where they rested, waiting to be rediscovered as we continued forward with our
lives. As we moved through the 1980s and early 1990s, there wasn’t much
acoustic music around us. Electric guitars, keyboards and drums took over, . . .
we all experimented with the sounds, but eventually remembered the acoustic
music our fathers and mothers had played at night when we were little, . . . so,
we picked up those instruments and began playing them again, . . . quickly
finding our way to Bluegrass music.
“In 1997 we formed ‘Jackstraw’ and began pursuing a music that would deliver
a fresh take on the energy, vigor & soul of Bluegrass, while remaining true to it’s spirit and tradition.”
